I recently met Steve from iBallz – a company that makes innovative tablet protection products. He claimed that tablets protected with iBallz will bounce, not break, when dropped from any angle. Skeptical of his claim, I asked Steve for a demo, and in response he literally threw his iPad across the room! Lo and behold, no breaks, no cracks, no worries. And not only are iBallz dependable, they also come in fun colors, which is pretty cool (the song at the end of this video – not so much):
We love iPads in the classroom because they are so mobile – students can pass them around easily, work with them outside, in the lab, on a field trip, etc. Unfortunately, when used in this way it’s inevitable that the iPads will be dropped, and even a small fall can crack the tablet’s screen. This problem can cost schools thousands of dollars in repairs or replacements. Thus, protection is essential.
There are loads of cover-all cases out there but I’ve never been a huge fan. They can bulk up the tablet and weigh it down, making it hard to hold for younger students. And nothing is more annoying than when your finger can’t tap the side of the screen because a bulky case gets in the way. iBallz address these issues in a new way.
The only problem I can see with the iBallz is that they may not be suitable for iPad carts. The balls are wider than your average cover-all case, so they may not fit into the slots of certain iPad carts or trolleys. Other than that, iBallz have seen a lot of success in the classroom. The company even offer schools a 40% discount on bulk orders which makes them more affordable.
